Hi guys and gals. I'm Jimmy from Hammond. I ride a 2001 suzuki katana 750. It's my daily driver that I commute 100 miles round trip a day to New Orleans. I've been riding for about 12 years now and love it. I'm always looking for someone to ride with on the weekends. All my buddies sold their bikes! Hit me up and we will ride!

Welcome to the group Jimmy, Cool to see another rider who long distance commutes on his ride. Thats some dedication there it also builds some serious skill.

Thank you noladuc and bloodyplup. I've been commuting like this for over two years and your right, it takes a certain dedication and the proper gear for year round commuting. I've got rain gear, summer gear, winter gear, saddle bags etc. I really enjoy riding plus the gas savings over my car doesn't hurt the fact either lol

Yeah, commuting will defiantly give you a quick lesson in the value having the right gear. I had the luxury of having only my bike available to commute when my car broke during the middle of last winter. My Revit Alaska gloves are the only reason why I still have fingers. I also now know what 28 degrees feels like on a bike but like you said with the right gear its not that bad.

Road a lot last winter for same reason, only broken truck leather pants and cortech dsx jacket, and boots but no matter what gloves I wore my hands nearly froze everytime I crossed causeway. I need grip heaters badly for next winter. Full gauntlets didn't help much

Ooh that's chilly. I'd like some heated gloves too. I'd really like to take a long trip on my bike. Up to Gatlinburg. Then hit the dragon. It's been a dream of mine for years!

Watched some video s my buddy shot while riding Deals Gap and the Cherohala Skyway this weekend, looks absolutely amazing, I will definitely be planning a group trip there within the next year. The dragon tail is famous for its 300 + turns but its less than 20 miles so its really tight. The Cherohala is fast and flowing turns and is over 60 miles with great vistas. It actually looks like more fun. The dragon looks like a workout. Will also probably be planning a weekend trip up the Natchez trace of his fall and that should be alot of fun as well and its not as far. Will keep you posted

Hey Morgan, the Cherohola Skyway (probably misspelled that) is AWESOME, but much more dangerouse than the gap, thanks to the mountain on one side & the guardrail/cliff on the other side, combined with much higher speeds.
