Hello. I'm Kevin from Kenner. Just got a 2013 Ducati Monster 696. My first motorcycle and I am just learning to ride. Hopefully, I'll be able to learn enough to ride with some of you before I crash and total my beautiful bike.

Welcome to the group!!! You can take a course at Nola motorsports and harley which will teach you some great riding skills. They give you a bike to use so yours wont be damaged while learning. Well worth the cash for the knowledge.

Hi. Kevin, welcome to the group, happy to have another Duc in the group. The Monster is a great bike and you are going to really love that thing as you get more experience. Our group has many new riders as well as more experienced guys who can help you learn. Have you taken any kind of riding course or have you been self taught? Also post some pics of that beautiful bike.

Thanks for the welcome. I really do like the looks of the Monster and the low seat height helps. I wish I had the money and time to take the MSF course but I am trying to learn to ride on my own. I've only ridden it three times. I'm just trying to get used to balancing the clutch and throttle. My biggest problem is turning right from a stop. I either don't give enough throttle and kill it or I give too much and make a wide turn. I have a way to go before I would feel comfortable in traffic but I have to go get my DL endorsement soon. Oh well, gotta start somewhere, right? I wanted to post pictures but I couldn't find where to upload them. I only saw a place to change my avatar.

Just take it slow I didn't leave my neighborhood for the first month. You build confidence quickly enough. Practice practice good luck!

Kevin: I finally took the MSF Course offered by the State of LA about 2 years after I got my bike. Problem was I had to unlearn all my bad habits and learn the right way to ride. Best to start with the right way.

I agree with Sid, the cost is more than justified. If you drop that Duc one time it will cost ya way more than $250 for the MSF course. During the course you use their bike so you aren't as nervous about going down when practicing new techniques. Its well worth it. I have been told that the DMV will accept the MSF certificate in place of a riding portion of the test, and your insurance will give you a break too.
