Well my 2001 intruder that I bought last Thursday went to the shop today had a great ride this morning to work! On my way home every thing good all the way to slidell it started making a loud roaring sound seemed to be coming from the front end somewhere:-( GREAT! Hope it's just something minor not major like the transmission! Still love it won't give up on it!

Not sure it kinda sounded like a wheel bearing. I had a virago 750 when I was a teenager did kinda the same thing ended up being a bad speedometer cable!

You may as well change the wheel bearings, they are cheap ($10 a piece or so) and if you do it your self, it will cost you next to nothing. Grab the wheel and shake it, but have somebody hold the steering wheel firm. If you get any play, you need to replace the bearings.

Yeah, I'd check the front wheel like Renee said. However, I find it hard to believe that you heard a bearing over the motor, but I guess it's possible.

I think i would have went in the shop I bought it from and raised hell if they told me they wouldn't work on it a week after I bought it. They should have given any bike they sell a thorough mechanical inspection before putting it for sale, Harley or not. I think there are even laws they say they have to. If nothing else its the right thing to do even if it was a problem they couldn't have known about they should at least split the cost of the repair. Did you bring it to Friendly Powersports? at least I know the shop guys there are good people. Sorry to hear about this.

I so excited when the shop called and said its ready I stopped on my way home from work the guy said oh it was just the gas filler door that was causing the vibration sound you were hearing? I said it was making a roaring sound ! Leave it another day I'll get it on the rack first thing tomorrow :-( . Still a chance I might make the ride Saturday weather permitting!!

Did you notice any vibration, powerloss, difficulty steering or anything out of the ordinary besides the noise?

Yet another harley dealership to avoid. Man I love my sportster but anytime I hear of people dealing with the Harley dealerships it's nothing but bad news. Glad your bikes working and you don't have big bill. I'm very happy I have a good and trustable Mechanic.

There is some vibration in the handlebars . It sounds the same as when you have a bad bearing in a car. The faster I rode the louder it got! As far as Harley dealer I always heard good things about Bruno maybe just my bad luck? This week has been a maintenance nightmare for us! The bike, my mom and dads car boy I could go for a cold brew!
